It is an undeniable fact that the Nigerian movie industry will not be the same without Mercy Johnson. This accomplished and successful actress has simply done it all. Over the years, her roles in several movies have been all shades of challenging, exciting, sorrowful, seductive, glamorous, fascinating e.t.c, but there has always been one constant in all, her pure and convincing acting talent.
Mercy Johnson is not just a Nollywood great that Nigerians have come to love and appreciate after several years, she is one who deserves a lot of accolades for playing her part to change the game completely from what Nollywood fans were formerly used to.
The fact that she has acted alongside several other legends is not even the achievement, what is worth praising is the way this actress found a way to consistently stand out even when she shared the screen with colleagues who were in the game long before she arrived.
I’ll stop here, because if I continue to hail this superstar, the main reason for this article will never be touched. Let’s prove this legend’s impact in the Nollywood scene by flaunting her greatness in the drama, comedy or romance genre over the years with our list of Best Mercy Johnson Movies Yet (2022).
1. Mercy Johnson – Heart Of A Fighter:
This is one of her best movies ever and most Nollywood fans agree. It was released back in 2010 and Ifeanyi Ogbonna was the one charged with the responsibility of directing top stars like Mercy Johnson, Ramsey Noah, Ruth Kadiri, Nosa Rex Okunzuwa, Enebeli Elebuwa, Walter Anga and Chika Ike.
The story here was centred around a girl (Mercy Johnson) who conveniently fought like a man. In it, Mercy was a young, fierce and vibrant woman who ended up challenging the prince of the land (Ramsey Noah) to a fight, to the amazement of the entire village. This move changed Mercy Johnson’s life forever, but not just in the movie, outside of her too.
Viewers saw a different side to her that they had never seen before and every scene with Mercy in it was never boring, even for a second. The movie has different parts and it is definitely a project the actress will remember for the rest of her life.
2. Mercy Johnson – Dumebi The Dirty Girl:
This is another Mercy Johnson movie that most people remember not just for its storyline and prolific acting, but for portraying Mercy Johnson in ways Nollywood fans were not used to. Its rich cast that included her alongside Kenneth Okonkwo, Tchidi Chikere, Solomon Akiyesi, and Nuella Njubigbo should have warned us that it would be a successful project, but we still did not see the quality content coming.
Released in 2012, it flaunted Mercy Johnson’s versatility as an actress, and we have its producer, Chinedu Collins Ezenwa and its director, Tchidi Chikere to thank for that. The storyline the movie worked with was centred around a loud and dirty village girl, Dubem, played by Mercy Johnson, who was very uneducated, irresponsible and lazy. Dubem was eventually impregnated by a guy named Frank and when she delivered, she had no choice but to park to his house in the city.
She finally arrived at his house with her extremely nasty appearance only to find out that there was another woman already living with Frank in his house. The fact that this other woman was looking way classier than her presented a dilemma Mercy Johnson had to find her way around.
There were lots of long hilarious scenes in this one, including one where Dubem used a taxi on her second day in Lagos and forgot her son in it. When she finally realized, Mercy Johnson had to spend almost the entire night searching for her child.
Shockingly, despite Dumebi looking like the worse option between the 2 ladies in his house, Frank still preferred her to the other woman, even if her ill-mannered behaviour was a huge turn-off for him. In summary, this is a movie you have to watch to give Mercy Johnson her due accolade as a talented movie star.

She ended up allowing her evil mother to plant seeds of discord that lead her into committing an abominable act.
