There are several reasons why Nigerian Nollywood actresses find it difficult to get married. Some of these are understandable while others are just not realistic.
Firstly, it is important to note that life as a Nollywood actress is demanding, stressful and can keep the thespian away from their families for a long time – weeks or, maybe even months. This will definitely take a huge toll on any family. It could disrupt the bonding between the movie star and her children or even infidelity in marriage. Why do you think so many marriages in Nollywood crash?
Recently, some fans took to social media to share their own perspectives as to why Nigerian Nollywood actresses struggle to find someone to settle down with in their lives. The truth is that there is a general belief in some quarters that these female movie stars are promiscuous and not worth spending ‘forever after’ with all in the name of marriage.
Before we look at what fans had to say on this, let’s share what NollywoodCelebs think.
Reasons Why Nigerian Nollywood Actresses Find It Difficult to Get Married
1. Career Demands: As we stated earlier, Nollywood actresses spend a lot of time on set due to the demanding nature of acting. Hence, it is quite challenging to balance career and family life.
2. Pressure from Husbands: Not every husband will understand the demands of acting. This will make it difficult for him to support his Nigerian Nollywood actress wife which would inadvertently, add pressure on the thespian.
3. Financial Independence: There are quite a number of actresses that are financially independent so they are not in a hurry to get married.
4. Fear of Divorce: Do you know that the fear of divorce can actually deter actresses from getting married? This is made worse by the high rate of failed marriages in the industry which would most likely, discourage these thespians.
5. S**ual Harassment: The Nigerian movie industry is filled with cases of randy movie producers who have vowed not to zip up their trousers unless they sleep with all the female actresses. This has turned off the female movie stars who then prioritize their careers over relationships.
6. Spiritual Undertones: The roles taken by some of these Nigerian Nollywood actresses have spiritual implications, affecting their personal lives. Those who play marine agents, babalawo (juju priests) and similar roles often attract the attention of ‘Mami Water’ and other agents of darkness.
In fact, there are true life instances of attacks to these actresses which we would not mention due to its sensitive nature. However, we at NollywoodCelebs were told that these spirits have to be appeased before such roles are taken. This has led to some of the Nigerian Nollywood actresses being single without them even knowing it.
7. Lack of Suitable Partners: There’s no doubt that finding a husband who understands the nature of acting and Nollywood can be challenging. Not every man will be happy to see his actress wife intimate with another man on screen. His friends and family would heap pressure on him the more to end such a marriage.
8. Public Scrutiny: Many A-list actresses have their lives constantly under intense scrutiny. Hence, it will be difficult to maintain privacy in relationships.
9. Age and Expectations: Some Nigerian Nollywood actresses may delay marriage due to societal expectations or personal preferences.
10. Personal Choice: Ultimately, some actresses may prefer to remain single, prioritizing their careers and personal fulfillment.
We will add another reason which may even be more important than the ten above.
11. Unrealistic Choice of Partner: Many Nigerian Nollywood actresses have not yet married because of their unrealistic demands for a husband. They want to get married to a billionaire who would take care of all their bills including exotic trips abroad, jewellery, cars and other expensive gifts.
Every actress wants to live the type of lifestyle that Regina Daniels enjoys. After all, if their colleague can get married to a billionaire senator, so can they. Hence, no matter how well behaved and reasonably comfortable a man is, these female thespians are just not that into them for marriage.
