A lady with user name @phurple_rice on Twitter, has shared her observations on the way Nollywood portrays Nigerian nurses. Using the 2022 Nigerian Showmax Original drama series, Flawsome starring Enado Odigie, Bisola Aiyeola, Sharon Ooja, Gabriel Afolayan, Iretiola Doyle, Baaj Adebule, Shine Rosman, and Shawn Fuqua as an example, the social media user pointed out a particular episode.
According to the lady, Ify’s mum was trying to hide her health condition only for the nurse to disclose it which is against the ethics of the job.
In reality, there are those who believe strongly that Nigerian nurses are gossips as also seen in the TV program, “Clinic Matters”.
There are those that also describe Nigerian nurses as rude (foul-mouthed), mean and without emotions. While the jobs is stressful, there has to be a high degree of care, patience and professionalism as human lives in their care could be lost due to negligence or carelessness.
NollywoodCelebs was informed earlier by one of our readers that in a popular hospital in Abuja, a particular nurse that attended to her was going about her work as though she was forced into the profession. To be fair, other nurses on duty were nice and polite. However, this particular one would use force whenever she had to remove or fix the drip.
Another NollywoodCelebs reader claimed that he had to be patient and show endurance although he nearly slapped one nurse at a Teaching Hospital after she left her duties to start gossiping with a patient she had bumped into while waiting for consultation. It’s understood that this gentleman tried to call the nurse to order as some of the elderly patients were complaining that they couldn’t hear properly when their names were being called to go in to see the doctor.
Rather than take corrections and get back to her duty, the nurse replied rather rudely asking if the man had an ear infection or if he was deaf and if he was, should go to the ear/nose department.
So, we think Nollywood is only acting on some of the true-life experiences people have in its portrayal of Nigerian nurses.
