There has been so much drama and bitterness coming out of Nollywood, especially the Asaba movie industry, since Junior Pope’s untimely and tragic demise. Actors have openly accused their colleagues of witchcraft and have blacklisted those they hold grudges against due to jealousy and envy. In a now-deleted post shared on her Instagram page, Rita Edochie dropped a message for those in the industry as well as for everyone else who thinks that they own the world.
She wrote;
“This is for Nollywood and everyone who thinks he or she owns the world.
Dearest, don’t ever be moved by the love expressed on social media, it’s completely fake. Sometimes I wonder what the pride and unnecessary show off is about when we are all going to go down one day and it’s dust to dust. Why should we envy each other, why should we kill one another, what is the essence of this untold competition? After dragging and contending with each other the helpless skeletons in us will manifest.
Our film industry, where hate and envy take the lead. You see your neighbour doing well, you start getting envious, on the person’s birthday you don’t care to show the person real love but when the person gives up, you will be the first to circulate the news. They post you on their pages writing epistles of love but the bitterness in their hearts is on another level. My dear, learn to be yourselves acquaintance is not welcomed in our dearest industry. But remember that everything your health, your beauty, your power, your pride, your celebrity status, your money, your education, His Excellency, Most Reverend, His Highness, Rt Hon., His Royal Majesty, His Lordship, My Lord, High Chief, Dr, Hon, Prof, Nze, JP, MON, MFR, OON, do you know me? Who are you? I don’t take ordinary beer. I drink only 21 years, 45 years, all are vanity upon vanity nobody will live longer than Metuselah in the Bible, we came from dust, and we shall return to the dust. Let’s cut down on the pride, intimidation, and show off because there is nothing serious about this life.”
