Priscillia Oye has taken to her Instagram page to advise parents to be careful with what they do in the presence of their kids. The up-and-coming Nollywood actress stated this in an Instagram post while promoting the Nigerian movie, ‘My Parents Bad Habits’.
According to the thespian, children learn very fast from what they see others doing. Hence, caution has to be taken regardless of how innocent and young the child may be.
Firstly, let’s give you examples of what children could learn from their parents – sometimes without them knowing that their kids have picked them up.

Unhealthy habits: Children observe their parents behaviour and may pick up really unhealthy habits like excessive drinking, smoking and even their eating patterns.
Conflict Resolution: Sadly, a lot of Nigerian parents are guilty of arguing, fighting and other acts too violent for their children to see. They fail to understand that that their kids could easily learn negative patterns of conflict resolution by witnessing their negative actions.
Communication Style: Sometimes, parents scold or punish their kids for adopting negative communication styles. This could be in form of yelling, or showing passive-aggressiveness. Later, the parents will be wondering where their kids learnt such behaviour while blaming their schools or TV. Unfortunately, it would not occur to them that their children were only observing their parents’ interactions.
Positives:
Empathy and Compassion: If parents set good examples by showing kindness and understanding towards each other, their children will learn empathy and compassion.
Problem-Solving Skills: Children are becoming more intelligent these days. They can learn effective problem-solving skills by observing how calmly their parents address their challenges while finding solutions in daily life.
Resilience: Children watch the way that their parents tackle difficulty situations. They will be inspired if perseverance and determination is used while facing challenges.
